In a concerted effort to promote sexual and reproductive health rights (SRHR) among Malawi's youth population, ECOSID recently joined forces with Chiutula Youth Organization, in collaboration with the Nkhotakota District Youth Office (DYO) and the Nkhotakota District Health Office (DHO), supported by AmplifyChange. Together, they orchestrated a dynamic public campaign on Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) held at Chisoti primary ground.
The primary objective of the campaign was twofold: first, to disseminate accurate and comprehensive SRHR information to out-of-school youth, and second, to address entrenched gender-based inequalities, community norms, and structural barriers that hinder young people's access to quality sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services. Through engaging activities and informative sessions, the event sought to empower adolescents and young adults with the knowledge and resources necessary to make informed decisions about their sexual and reproductive well-being.
During the campaign, the Nkhotakota District Health Office (DHO) and the District Youth Office (DYO) played pivotal roles in providing a range of Sexual Reproductive Health Services (SRHS) and disseminating crucial information on SRHR to Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYW) and the wider community. The presence and involvement of local leaders, including Chiefs and religious figures, underscored the collective commitment to advancing SRHR within the community.
By leveraging partnerships and community engagement, the campaign not only delivered vital SRHR information and services but also fostered a supportive environment for open dialogue and reflection on prevailing societal norms and attitudes. Through collaborative efforts and community involvement, ECOSID and its partners are driving meaningful change, breaking down barriers, and empowering Malawi's youth to make informed choices about their sexual and reproductive health.
